The Gift of Hope: Perfect Timing

We started our sermon series, The Gift of Hope with this message: The Gift of Hope: Perfect Timing. God gives us hope, and I believe it is one of the most needed things for the church today. We struggle with hope because we do it out of a place of hopelessness and want God to take us to Heaven where hope is, but God called us to be hope. We are supposed to be the game changers. Which Way Do I Go?

Have you ever felt stuck in a place simply because you didn't know what to do or where to go next? I am an overthinker, so this is a place I can find myself if left to my own devices. Have you ever been hasty to move simply because you did not want to end up where others were? What if this was simply because your North Pole was off? No, I am not talking about your Christmas spirit. I am talking about your reference point. Listen in as we talk about reestablishing your reference so you can move towards something and not be trapped in just moving away from things.

More Than A Feeling

Affection is a word that has become closely related to love. In many cases it is the thing that decides whether we feel loved or not. Some of you know what I am talking about. If our spouse isn't being very affectionate towards us then we wonder if we feel loved. If we were raised in a home where affection was void, then feeling it for the very first time can almost be like a drug. What if this lack presents a space where we would do or search anywhere for it? Suddenly our definition of love has become limited to a feeling that we are constantly chasing and finding in all the wrong places.

You’re the Worth, Burr

Value is a word that we seem to chase with everything we have got. Trying to be like someone else who is more successful or running from the things that have been done to us. Both of these extremes have a way of assigning a value to us that is relative to the world around us. But what is your worth? I know what you are thinking, "Aren't they the same thing??" Take a minute to listen to this episode as we hopefully help you to stop pursuing a relative value and instead walk into the worth in which you are held.

Know Your Audience

Have you ever thought about how you talk to the people you talk to? For the most part, I feel like most people just assume that the person in the conversation with us should speak our language. After all, most of the people we converse with are of the same background as us. What if I told you that this was perhaps our most broken part of the communication process.
 
As a pastor, I have learned that I cannot just carbon copy what Jesus and others said in the Bible and make it a one size fits all response. Even Jesus knew the importance and value of his audience and spoke to different groups and types of people in different ways in order to get his message across. His message never changed but his delivery did. Intrigued? Then, LETS GO!!!

How Did We Get Here?

If you are like me, I feel like I am stuck in a time loop. In the last few days, we have experienced another tragic school shooting that took the innocent lives of babies. We have experienced another fallout of a Christian denomination/church over the sexualy atrocities of pastors that were supposed to be caring for their congregation instead of feeding their sinful desires. In the midst of this, I am left to wonder, "How did we get here?"
I will warn you that this episode may just be some ramblings as I attempt to ponder this question. It is time to stop yelling, arguing, debating, and trying to push our agendas. All of us have a piece of the puzzle, information, or resources to make a difference. Sit down with me for a minute and let's begin to process a path forward by reflecting on how we got here.
